The Clem7 toll has been slashed to $2 in an attempt to attract drivers to the troubled tunnel. The new price takes effect on Thursday and will run until the end of September.

The ratepayers will pay for Lord Mayor Campbell Neumans self gratifying civil engineering projects long after he is gone.

Last month an average of 23,746 vehicles used the tunnel on weekdays, while an average of 21,424 used it on a seven-day average. RiverCity Motorway originally predicted 60,000 vehicles a day would pay to use the tunnel after a settlement period.

Will it be a case of private profits, public debt?


I can't fathom how they see the airport tunnel working, so you are going to drive to Kedron then to the airport? from the city?

And then increase the capacity of Milton road with a tunnel but declare there is no intention of upgrading the western freeway?

Maybe it's designed to be another innner city bypass^H^H^H^H^H^Hcarpark.

Brisbanites just don't have the toll mentality engrained in their minds to accept a toll road right now. Continual increases in registration costs coupled with increased fuel costs (and a hefty tax included) supports people refusing to pay to travel between point A and point B, regardless of time savings.

And with all the other increases in rates, utilities, public transport, people are getting fed up.

Poorly researched, poorly executed.

Great looking tunnel, too bad no one will use it.

This is brilliant.....

Meanwhile Lord Mayor Campbell Newman has told newspapers Brisbane City Council will use money from its marketing budget to offset the $2 million it will lose when the Go Between Bridge opens with a reduced toll on Monday morning.

So they're funding a failed toll way from an already excessive marketing budget, which is funny money anyway because they spend that money on themselves on owned infrastructure marketing on buses.
